ANTHRAX DEATHS—THE REAL CRISIS?
Much of the United States is in a heightened state of alert over recent anthrax attacks on media and government centers. Anthrax is a rare strain of deadly bacteria.
Active anthrax bacteria spores in the form of white powder mailed in letters through the U.S. Postal System, have caused the deaths of several people. Many post offices have been closed for decontamination, and the public has been warned to be cautious of all suspicious mail. The U.S. Postal Service has requested billions of dollars from Congress to make the system safe from such future attacks.

LG Comment: The United States Center for Disease Control, from 1955 -1999, reported 236 cases of anthrax poisoning. Although this number is significant, it pales in comparison with the ten leading causes of American deaths in 1998. Perhaps Americans should be more concerned about these figures:
