Q. I am finding it difficult to forgive someone who has really hurt me. I really don't want these feelings of resentment, but whenever I see this person, I remember all the bad things they have said and done to me. How can I get past this?
A. In looking to Jesus we find the most beautiful picture of forgiving love. To Peter, who cursingly denied Him three times, Jesus gave a look of pitying love. From Judas, He accepted the kiss of betrayal. Evenfor the Roman soldiers, who were pounding out' His life, he prayed, "'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.,, How did He do it?
Jesus lived with a single purpose: to save souls. Nothing else mattered. He lost sight of His life, comfort and reputation in this zeal. Humanly this is impossible. But Jesus, connected to Omnipotence, left us an example to follow (1 Peter 2:21). Only in possessing this same attitude can we live above the storms encountered in life. None of us possess this naturally. But we are admonished to ask. (Matthew 7:7, 8; 1 John 5:14, 15). As a standard expected of us by God, why would He withhold it from us?
Ask God to give you the same spirit of Christ, that Ephesians 4:1-3 might be revealed in your life.
