Vol.7 No.3

Q. Where in the Bible can I find the facts about Satan once being an angel in heaven?

A. Start with Revelation 12:7-9. Here, in a nutshell, is the story of the great conflict between good and evil. It all began in heaven and then was transferred to earth where Satan and his angels were banished.

For more details about the cause of Satan's fall, turn to Isaiah 14:12-17. Here we find that Satan desired to usurp the place of his Creator and to rule over the kingdoms of this world.

Ezekiel 28:12-19, referring to Satan as the King of Tyrus, describes Satan as a beautiful being named Lucifer adorned with precious jewels who stood in the very presence of God. It then describes how his beauty turned to vanity and evil.

Also, Jesus told the disciples that He had "beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven" (Luke 10:17).

From these texts we get a description of a beautiful being who once stood in the counsels of God, but who lost his beauty through cherishing pride and hatred. Today, this evil being named Satan has access to4o humanity and desires the human race to join him in his rebellion against God.
